Anthropic just passed OpenAI in quarterly revenue. The Wall Street Journal reported that OpenAI's second-quarter revenue rose 18% sequentially to $6.7B while operating losses widened to $12.3B. Anthropic more than doubled revenue to $11.6B, moved ahead of OpenAI for the first time, and posted a small operating profit. CNBC's market read framed the crossover as a new test of which companies and stocks benefit if enterprise AI spending keeps tilting toward Anthropic.
The useful wrinkle is where the money appears to be coming from.
