WTF can you do with AI?!

The ultimate guide to unraveling artificial intelligence mysteries and marvels.

So, how did we go from cool discovery to a movement that shakes up an entire world in a year?!

November 30, 2022.

The release of ChatGPT. The day that inspired us to start The Neuron. #throwback

OpenAI launches a chatbot anyone can talk to, and it responds with something that sounds very much like a human.

Say “Hey,” and it shoots back, “Hey! How’s it going?” in half a second.

That’s weird. And kinda cool.

But the cooler thing is what you can do with it.

Cause ChatGPT could understand human sentences, it could also generate new sentences. New sentences that sounded like human sentences.

Blogs. Emails. Reports. Tweets. Newsletters.

So, a lot of normies, like you and me, started using it to write new sentences.

Need to send an email to your boss? Tell ChatGPT what to write → get a draft → tweak it → send. Boom, you just saved a sweet 4 minutes—very nice!

But it wasn’t just good at predicting sentences.

ChatGPT got the hang of predicting code. And voices. And data. And then images. And recently, video.

That’s multimodal AI for you newbies—AI that understands different types of data.

These days, ChatGPT-4o is the top dog in multimodal AI.

You can upload a sketch of an app → speak instructions to convert the photo into working code → draft a blog post explaining the code → create an image to top it all off.

Now that’s the AI John McCarthy envisioned back in 1956 over Jell-O salads and spam!

Of course, you can do so much more with AI—check out our free Intro to ChatGPT course to learn 32 practical ways to start using AI.

The wildest part: AI today is the worst it’ll ever be by far. Every day, these systems get smarter, and they get smarter exponentially (thx, machine learning).

Tech giants have poured obscene amounts of cash into developing the chips, infrastructure, and apps needed to create AGI and, eventually, superintelligence.

EVERYONE is gunning for the (AI) throne: Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and some rising stars you probably haven’t heard of yet.

More on this tomorrow.
