This intro course is designed to help newbies get up to speed on AI. We’ll explore AI, how we got here, and what matters moving forward.

Now, let’s dig in, you cool cat!
Artificial Intelligence.
It’s one of those buzzwords everyone, from your boss to dry cleaner, loves to toss around. But most folks don’t truly grasp what it means.
Well, let’s deconstruct it into its parts:
Artificial = humans make it, aka it doesn’t just magically appear in nature.
Intelligence = the ability to learn and solve problems, like humans do.
Together, artificial intelligence means taking a brain and putting it inside something that humans make, like a computer or robot.
There are different tiers of brainpower people install in computers.
There’s narrow AI, a brain that excels at one specific thing, like Chess.
There’s artificial general intelligence (AGI), a brain capable of performing any task a human brain can—making it a Chess Grandmaster, a novelist, and an accountant all rolled into one. Think Jarvis from Iron Man or C-3PO from Star Wars.
And if that isn’t freaky enough, there’s superintelligent AI, a super-genius brain that outperforms humans in every intellectual task imaginable. This gets us closer to Skynet from Terminator or Her.
But don’t stress over that just yet.
Today’s AI, like ChatGPT, is somewhere between narrow AI and AGI, so no Terminator anytime soon.
And, of course, AI is much more complicated than just an artificial brain.
There’s natural language processing, deep learning, neural networks, and machine learning, the OG of AI, or as we like to call it, The Neurons powering the AI’s brain.
THE. NEURONS.
Get it?!
We’ll dive into all of this, as well as how we got here in the first place (spoiler: it didn’t start with ChatGPT).
