PLUS: Microsoft takes business from OpenAI

Welcome, humans.

Amazon just launched a feature that lets sellers jazz up their product photos with AI. Itā€™s pretty neat, so we have to ask: will AI-generated visuals make every ad look downright stunning?

Good news for advertisers, but the catch is we might end up with a flood of ads that paint an overly rosy picture, so basically what every fast food chain that exists today doesā€¦

Hereā€™s what you need to know about AI today:

  • AI experts told us multimodal AI and agents are coming next.
  • >18K organizations are already using OpenAI through Microsoft Azure.
  • Google is figuring out ways to put ads in its AI search.
  • The White House is planning an executive order for AI regulation.

Get Ready For More Agents & Less Prompting!

Yesterday, this dude Pete hosted a Maven webinar with three of AIā€™s heavyweights, and they told us what to prepare for 2024.

First things first: inhale, exhale.

No, seriously ā€” take a deep breath. They said to stop worrying about AI and just start using it.

One resounding message was clear: AI wonā€™t replace humans, humans that use AI will replace humans.

This means that you need to think hard about where AI can augment your work and start experimenting ASAP. And if youā€™re the boss, here are two pointers:

  • start upskilling your team (weā€™ve got a great course for this!)
  • learn to have technical convos with your engineers about how to integrate AI.

Feeling more zen? Good, let's talk big-picture AI trends:

  1. Prompt engineering might be going away. At least according to OpenAIā€™s DevRel lead Logan Kilpatrick
  2. Everything is going multimodal, meaning models will have the ability to chat, read, see, and listenā€”all in one place (ChatGPT-4v is just the tip of the iceberg).
  3. AI agents are coming. Chatbots are OK, but AIs that can actually perform tasks across workflows will be the real 10x.
  4. AIā€™s context will improve, so itā€™ll remember you and what youā€™re trying to get done.
FROM OUR PARTNERS

Build Your Own AI Chatbot In Two Weeks.

Youā€™ve been thinking about it all wrong: you donā€™t want to work with AI, you want AI to work for you.

This starts with building a ChatGPT chatbot that knows your data ā€¦ and this course will teach you how.

Hereā€™s whatā€™s on the menu:

  • sessions from the founders of LangChain, Chroma, & LlamaIndex.
  • (exclusive) AI chatbot starter kit.
  • free 30-minute consultation with Mayo Oshin, the lead instructor.
  • private community of founders.

This is your last chance to join the course before the deadline of November 2nd!

Microsoft Is Taking Business Away From OpenAIā€¦

Companies have two choices to use OpenAI/ChatGPT:

  1. Pay OpenAI directly.
  2. Pay Microsoft through Azure OpenAI.

And theyā€™re increasingly choosing #2 cause itā€™s cheaper ā€” thanks to bundled pricing with other Microsoft services.

This sucks for OpenAI, but itā€™s great for Microsoft, which now has >18K companies paying for OpenAI via Azure.

Let's not forget that our September poll showed that more readers of The Neuron opt for Microsoft than ChatGPT.

Remember, Microsoft bankrolls OpenAI, which basically means it just paid for their secret recipe and served it up themselves. Absolute business sharks!

Around the Horn.

  • The White House is expected to release an executive order next week aimed at regulating AI.
  • Google is experimenting with ways to integrate ads into an AI search world.
  • Nvidia developed an AI agent that teaches robots how to do complex tasks.
  • Google is launching tools thatā€™ll let people verify if images are real.

Treat To Try.

Since itā€™s trivia day, we canā€™t resist sharing this killer game by Google. The aim? Identify the AI-generated image among a group of four ā€” aka the "odd one out."

We scored pretty abysmally, which is kinda sad considering we exist in AI all day long.

Anyway, test your luck here and let us know what you score!
