Microsoft Is Bringing GPT-4 To The US Government 🏛
GCN
So far, private companies have gotten first dibs on using OpenAI’s models. Now, it’s the government’s turn.
Microsoft is letting Azure Government cloud computing service clients use OpenAI’s models, including GPT-4.
Boring? We think it could be the collab of the century. Government agencies handle and process monstrous piles of information. And they’re not exactly known for their speed.
The potential applications of ChatGPT are endless:
- sort through mountains of paperwork with ease.
- provide 24/7 customer support for all those fun govt. procedures (ahem, DMV).
- summarizing field reports in seconds.
We’re particularly excited about GPT-4 ingesting huge amounts of policy data to inform decision-making on policy changes. Romania is already using AI to gauge public sentiments.
Why it matters: Data will be a huge concern, but Microsoft is already saying, “Don’t worry”: data from customers won’t be used to train OpenAI’s models.
AI could make waves in government operations, from local to federal levels. The question now is how quickly these agencies can adapt.
And just for a chuckle: imagine if the US government uses AI to draft regulatory compliance for AI!

Runway Gen-2 Is Live On Web & Mobile 🎥
The silver medal for cool tech this week behind Apple’s Vision Pro goes to Runway’s Gen-2 text-to-video model. It’s. Freaking. Awesome.
With Gen-1, people blended words with existing images and videos to generate new videos. With Gen-2, all you need are words.
We typed: “a cat sipping tea while reading a newsletter in san fran” and Runway spat out a video in less than 60 seconds. The cat was white, not orange, so we’ll sharpen our descriptions next time.
Meanwhile, our Twitter favorite, Timmy, has been dishing out a children’s video series with absolutely dazzling visuals and animations.
The creations are still, for the most part, obviously AI, but it’s hands down the most impressive video creation tool we’ve seen yet.
Why it matters: As the model improves, anyone will soon be able to whip up infinite new universes, stories, and experiences by typing on a keyboard. The creative industry better brace itself for a shakeup!
