A Sneak Peak Of Humane's 'iPhone Killer'

After raising nearly $250 million and dodging publicity since their founding 6 years ago, Humane has finally emerged with their "iPhone killer".

So far, it seems like it's all talk, little walk.

Humane is like the Apple Watch, but it syncs with the cloud instead of your smartphone. With Humane, you no longer need to touch a screen like an iPhone; you simply talk to it:

  • For example, Humane has a feature that lets you tap it and ask to catch up on all your "emails, calendar invites, and messages."
  • It can scan real-world objects and provide ChatGPT-like answers, such as analyzing the contents of a snack.
  • Our favorite feature is a full-scale AI speech model that translates what you say into another language, all in your own voice and within seconds.

It's buzzy, but our gut reaction still says, "Wait a minute..." Humane's tech is impressive, but none of these feel like "killer" features that can take down a trillion-dollar franchise in iPhones.

Nevertheless, the prospect of incorporating AI into physical devices to enhance our lives is exciting, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is a Humane backer. We'll see how they progress from here.

We still think this transformation will happen first inside Apple, who will host their big conference in early June.

That's if Tim Cook can channel his inner Steve Jobs (minus the abusive yelling).

FROM OUR PARTNERS

A Banksy got everyday investors 32% returns?

Mm-hmm, sure. So, what’s the catch?

We know it may sound too good to be true. But it’s not only possible, it’s happening—and thousands of investors are smiling all the way to the bank, thanks to the fine-art investing platform Masterworks.

These results aren’t cherry-picking. This is the whole bushel. Masterworks has built a track record of 8 exits, the last 3 realizing +13.9%, +17.8%, and +21.5% net returns even while financial markets plummeted.

But art? Really? Okay, skeptics, here are the numbers. Contemporary art prices:

  • outpaced the S&P 500 by 131% over the last 26 years
  • have the lowest correlation to equities of any asset class
  • remained stable through the dot-com bubble and ’08 crisis

What Americans Think About AI At Work 🏢

According to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, Americans hold complex and sometimes paradoxical views on using AI in the workplace.

First, a majority of participants agreed that AI is set to have a significant impact on workers and the US economy. 2% said it would have no effect, but we're giving grandparents a free pass.

Yet, while most agree AI is coming, Americans are skeptical about AI making important judgment calls in the workplace.

Enter hiring, HR's favorite pastime: only 7% of Americans favor AI in making a final hiring decision, and 28% favor AI reviewing job applications.

Even more, 2/3 of adults would not want to apply for a job if AI were involved in the hiring decision, even though most believe AI could promote fairness in hiring.

Finally, a micromanaging AI boss is out of the cards: most Americans oppose AI that tracks workers' movements, computers, and behavior from afar. In other words, buy us ChatGPT Plus and f*ck off.

Bottom line: AI is about to plow through white-collar professions, but expect resistance and scrutiny over its implementation.
