Welcome, humans.

Does anyone still use Threads? Their launch mirrored that of the squatty potty: tried for a week in the name of "wellness," only to revert to familiar old habits (hello again, Twitter).

Hereā€™s what you need to know about AI today:

  • Anthropic launched its subscription offering: Claude Pro.
  • Microsoft will take the legal blame for Copilot users who get sued over infringement.
  • Three big categories of YC AI startups: sales, finance, and education!
  • Slack will be able to summarize channels & threads this winter.

Anthropic Launches Claude Pro, A Rival To ChatGPT Plus.

Claude launched its own version of ChatGPT Plus: Claude Pro.

For context, Claude 2 is the next-best option after ChatGPT-4. Its superpower is that it can ā€œreadā€ and distill huge PDF documents. Plus, itā€™s more concise than ChatGPTā€™s English major energy.

The pro version is just Claude 2 with 5x more usage and priority access at $20/month. Given their similarities, we suggest opting for either Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus, much like youā€™d decide between Spotify and Apple Music.

tl;dr on Claude Pro vs. ChatGPT Plus: choose Claude if your job involves sifting through expansive documents (think research assistants or lawyers). Otherwise ChatGPT-4 and the free version of Claude 2 should suffice.

Now, for a human-touched comparison of these AI titans:

And hereā€™s how we personally use each in our workflow at The Neuron:

  1. Claude 2 to summarize longer research and reports.
  2. ChatGPT-4 to brainstorm, draw parallels, and refine our content.

Microsoftā€™s Got Your Back On Any AI Legal Issues.

Microsoft says itā€™ll cover your costs if your business faces legal trouble from using their AI products.

Ring a bell? A few months ago, Adobe made a similar promise for its AI design tool, Firefly.

Here's the lowdown on AI and legal challenges:

  • AI companies (GitHub Copilot, Midjourney, OpenAI) are getting sued for using creative content without permission.
  • This has spooked some companies off generative AI products entirely.
  • But Big Tech is so confident in generative AI (and eager for your business) that they're setting aside a legal kitty just for you ā€” if you sign on the dotted line.

Itā€™s kind of like how credit card companies vowing cardholders won't be responsible for the bill after a theft.

Why it matters: The legal landscape is murky at best. Every attorney we've consulted is still on the fence about generative AI and copyright nuances.

What is settled? Enterprises want 100% certainty that they arenā€™t dabbling with any shady ā€” or illegal ā€” AI models.

For now, just imagine your favorite Big Tech CEO singing a Rihanna classic: šŸŽµ you can stand under my umbrella, ella, ella, eh, eh, eh šŸŽµ

Around the Horn.

  • Slackā€™s AI will be able to recap channels and threads this winter.
  • Y Combinatorā€™s latest batch has 66 AI startups, with many in sales, finance, and education.
  • Google will require disclosures for political ads that use AI.
  • ChatGPT continues to struggle in non-English languages that arenā€™t as widespread.
  • IBM is bringing new models and capabilities to Watsonx.
