Is AI education about to enter its Renaissance Era?
One trend has become painfully obvious since AI first emerged: when the school year comes to a close in early June, ChatGPT traffic almost immediately takes a nosedive.

And it shouldn’t be hard to see why. We’re taught that correlation ≠ causation in school, but as two people taking in-person and online courses, we know that students are AI’s top power users. Just walk into a library, and you’ll find ChatGPT open on every browser and not a book in sight (sad but true).
For this reason, educators don’t view AI too favorably, and we don’t blame ‘em.
But at The Neuron, we believe that AI can improve education by democratizing and personalizing it.
Two buzzwords, so let us show-not-tell.
Yesterday, Andrej Karpathy, who cofounded OpenAI and was Tesla’s AI director, announced Eureka Labs, “a new kind of school that is AI native.”
The idea is to combine expert-created course material with AI teaching assistants to make it easy for everyone anywhere to learn anything. For example, studying physics with a Richard Feynman-like AI tutor.
His first course is called LLM101n, an undergraduate-level course that guides students through the process of creating their own AI models (it’s offered for free on GitHub). Using AI to make AI? Sign us up!
Eureka Labs isn't alone in this AI education revolution.
- Khan Academy has its AI-powered Khanmigo for Teachers, which generates lesson plans and adjusts content difficulty based on the level of the student.
- Dozens of companies raised VC funds to develop specialized AI tools for language learning, STE, and personalized tutoring.
We personally love using GPTs on our own time as learning tools for various topics, from physics to JavaScript to philosophy.
We like how we can ask “why” or “how come” and dive deeper into topics to ensure we truly understand them—it’s like having our own personal TAs, minus the awkward Office Hours Zoom on a random Tuesday!
