OpenAI is training a new version of Sora that will supposedly generate video clips faster, longer, and at higher quality than the demo from back in February.

The previous version (call it Sora 1.0) took ~10 minutes to generate 1 minute of footage. Compared to a traditional film set, which takes 12 hours for 2-3 minutes of usable footage per day, that’s a big productivity boom (about 28.8x). But that’s assuming that 1 minute clip you get is usable, and not, IDK, a “floating chair stalking you.”

Meta dropped some serious AI heat at its Meta Connect 2024 event.

The Meta Connect 2024 TL;DR: “Smart Glasses + AI = The Future.”

Actually, there was full laundry list of all kinds of AI updates from this event. Slight tangent—who makes a list of their laundry? Shouldn't it be "grocery list?"

Here are the highlights:

Meta AI is getting smarter, with a new voice mode (demo here), featuring celebs like Awkwafina and John Cena.
Llama 3.2, with new multimodal models (11B and 90B), small models (1B and 3B), and a new Llama stack for enterprise.
Meta Ray-Bans are getting improved AI updates.
Orion, the world’s first first “full holographic AR prototype.”

For open-source fans, Llama 3.2 steals the show—Meta claims the multimodal versions can decode pics, read chicken scratch, and get cultural nuances just right.

OpenAI’s CTO Mira Murati is leaving the company in order to “do her own exploring” (which some say is corporate speak for “start my own company”), and two of the company’s top researchers are also leaving.
