Welcome, humans.

We’re absolutely obsessed with crafting the best darn newsletter on the market. Seriously, we debate individual words—no joke. A quick guide to our style:

  • bolded words = important takeaways.
  • italicized words = our commentary or jokes.
  • • bullet points = examples or illustrations.

Keep sending us feedback—we read all of it!

Here’s what you need to know about AI today:

  • LinkedIn is unveiling an AI-powered job coach.
  • ChatGPT-4 & a leading ethicist tied on advice.
  • Phind claims to match GPT-4 and be 5x faster.
  • Scarlett Johanssen is suing an AI app for stealing her voice/face.

LinkedIn’s AI Job Coach Shows An Actual AI Use Case.

While we sh*t on LinkedIn frequently (deservedly so), the company is shipping AI features that could truly serve its now 1B users.

For context, many businesses are wondering how to enrich their products with AI? Their answers are mostly IDK or resort to slapping a chatbot on their homepage.

And the latter is just lazyyyy…

LinkedIn’s AI job coach is a solid case study for AI that’s actually useful.

Searching/applying for jobs is a pain-in-the-arse. LinkedIn went down the stack of common pain points and pinpointed where AI could make things 10x easier:

  • Tips on improving your profile for hiring managers.
  • Summarizing long job descriptions.
  • Telling you if you are a good fit for a position.
  • Identifying connections within the target company.
  • Writing draft messages to recruiters.

Of course, this is just a demo. Let's hope LinkedIn won’t tease us with flashy gimmicks like its corporate overlord (rhymes with Nicrosoft).

Invest In This Startup is Building Real-Life Robo-Teams.

AvaWatz builds AI-powered robots that perform tedious, high-risk tasks for humans.

Its advanced algorithms transform individual bots into seamless task forces that execute physical tasks both faster and safer.

Picture this: air robots detecting runway debris AND ground bots swooping in for the clean-up.

The US military already uses AvaWatz’s tech and invested $2 million themselves, plus AvaWatz has bagged two impressive patents since we first featured them.

For a limited time, AvaWatz is opening its door to retail investors for an exclusive fundraising round.

You can become a shareholder for as little as $250. Invest here before their campaign closes on 11/7!

ChatGPT-4 & Top Ethicist Tie On Giving Ethical Advice.

Ann-Sophie Qvarnström

50 MBAs, 13 academics, 4 pastors, and 1 rabbi walk into a bar research study.

They’re posed with the following scenario: rate the usefulness of ethical advice from:

  1. a NYT ethicist (Dr. Kwame Anthony Appiah).
  2. ChatGPT-4.

The result: the group showed no significant preference for either.

Not what you were expecting, eh?!

The fact that ChatGPT-4 gives advice on par with esteemed ethicists suggests it could be incredibly valuable across numerous contexts.

  • ChatGPT-4 (or Pi) could help HR departments resolve workplace disputes—like when a coworker moves your entire desk into the bathroom (The Office geeks know).
  • In decisions requiring ethical considerations, ChatGPT-4 could offer guidance.

And at the end of the study, everyone just wanted to know who would pick up the tab—it must’ve been the MBA students!

Around the Horn.

  • Meta’s Yann LeCun and 70+ others signed a letter calling for stronger endorsement of open-source in AI.
  • Microsoft 365 Copilot will cost $30/month per user and enterprises will need 300+ users to gain entry.
  • DeepMind released an improved version of AlphaFold, its revolutionary AI for predicting protein structures.
  • Scarlett Johansson is taking legal action against an AI app that created a deepfake ad of her.

Treat To Try.

Many of our engineer pals love Phind, an AI programming assistant/search engine.

Phind claims it now beats ChatGPT-4 on benchmarks, though most still see ChatGPT-4 as the stronger option.

Either way, Phind is now 5x faster than ChatGPT-4—check it out and let us know what you phind ;)
