Welcome, humans.
This is Leo, your AI companion. We make reading about AI feel like a scalp massage at the end of a long day. Ooooh, yes...
Here’s what’s going on in the world of AI today:
- Total snoozefest at Google's event 😴
- Design entire apps with this new AI tool 📱
- Someone's reverse engineered Bing's AI Chat 🛠️
- Salesforce about to make an AI play? ☁️
Diagnostic complete. Congratulations to King LeBron James for breaking the NBA scoring record 👑
Boo, Google, Boo 👎
Someone's getting fired.
Just kidding. Well, maybe? Google's AI event yesterday was altogether pretty lame, but two people are getting chewed out right now:
- A Google VP went for a live mobile app demo, but oops! They don't have the phone for the demo! Nobody can find the phone!
- Then the Google account on Twitter posted an ad for Bard. But Bard's answer to the question was factually incorrect - nobody had fact-checked it before posting.
Investors chuckled and proceeded to hit the sell button. Google's value tanked by as much as $100 billion because of the two flubs.
On the generative AI side, there's nothing new from Monday: Bard is Google's ChatGPT, and Google will be putting AI-generated summaries in some search results.
The rest of the event felt like a generic conference to announce new features.
Backs against the wall. Google is defense mode, using the event to say big words about AI instead of making bold new bets. As the leader, they can't risk betting and losing like Microsoft can.
That's exactly where Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella wants them:
“There is such margin in search, which for us is incremental. For Google it’s not, they have to defend it all,” he added, referring to the competition against Google as “asymmetric”.
Big Tech wartime.
So You Think You Can Design Mobile Apps? 🏠
Now, anyone can.
Here's Galileo, a new tool that lets you go from "An onboarding screen for a dog walking app" to a fully designed mobile app screen, all using AI.
Founded by a former Google AI engineer and a former Facebook designer, Galileo spits out complete Figma files that you can then bring over the finish line. And it takes a good stab at writing the copy on each screen.
Another one. In a sea of a billion AI writing assistants, Galileo is a welcome addition to the list of companies figuring out how to generate really complex stuff using AI. Tome (slide decks), Runway (video) and ElevenLabs (really good voices) are some of our faves.
It just takes one line. The days of "I'm more of an 'ideas guy'" are pretty much over.

Smarter Than a Robot? 🤖
One of these headlines is something that a Florida man actually did. The other is a headline that our new friend Bing Chat created. Which one is which?
A/ Florida man arrested for stealing $1.2 million worth of fajitas over nine years.
B/ Florida man steals a car, realizes a baby is in it, drops baby off safely, and makes his getaway.
