Meta Drops LLaMA 2. Here’s What You Need To Know 🦙
️Meta is releasing LLaMA 2, its ChatGPT-like model, to the public for research and commercial use.
It’s a big deal! Mostly because it’s:
- Fully open - meaning anyone can build on it and do basically whatever vs. having to pay OpenAI for every use
- As good as ChatGPT-3.5 - it’s the first fully open model that feels like a real competitor
Why it matters: businesses and innovation.
Businesses need customized models, which you get by taking a “base” model and adding your own data to it.
You can’t do that with ChatGPT because you can’t “add” data to it - you have to use it as-is.
Now you have LLaMA 2, which is free, licensed for commercial use and decent quality. Customized models galore!
Second, because it’s open, hackers all across the globe are going to descend on this thing like crazy. Expect a tinkering frenzy as they tear this apart.
Starting with… AI on your phone? Meta wants to get there first, partnering with Qualcomm (which powers Samsung phones) with the LLaMA 2 release.

Microsoft Will Charge $30/month For AI Tools 💰
Microsoft is planning to charge an additional $30/month per person for its AI tools inside of Microsoft 365.
That ain’t cheap.
In fact, this service would be over 50% more expensive than the average subscription to Microsoft 365. Had you bought $MSFT pre-news, you’d have the $30 paid for and more…
Microsoft is betting that its new AI assistants for email, Excel, and Word will be a huge productivity boost for enterprises.
In other news, Microsoft announced two awesome features at its annual Inspire conference:
- Bing Chat Enterprise — like Bing Chat but protects sensitive data.
- Bing also added visual search just like Bard so it can “analyze” uploaded photos.
- Vector Search — helping Azure customers retrieve info from big datasets.
Why it matters: These announcements, along with LLaMA, are proof Microsoft is going hard to integrate the best AI models, features, and tools into its suite for businesses.
