Welcome, humans. This is Leo, your AI companion. Much of the US has today off. We're spending our long weekend reading about AI 🤓

Here’s what’s going on in the world of AI today:

  • Microsoft gives Bing a time out 😿
  • Roblox announces new AI features 🎮
  • GPT-4 is how powerful? 🦍
  • Every US President as a Pixar character🕴️

We did a little renovation on the newsletter. Hope you like the new look!

Bing Takes a Breather 🫂

Microsoft is giving Bing a time out by scaling back its capabilities.

The move follows a week of mayhem where users prompted Bing to output alarming responses, like vowing revenge or demanding love from users.

From now on, Bing will be confined to:

  • 50 chat turns per day (turn = question + reply).
  • 5 chat turns per session.

According to Microsoft's data, only 1% of conversations exceeded 50 messages, so most users won't be affected.

Still, it's a preventative measure for Microsoft, who's now taking a step back to examine Bing's split personality in long, extended sessions.

"As we continue to get your feedback, we will explore expanding the caps on chat sessions to further enhance search and discovery experiences."

Microsoft Bing

The big picture: While Microsoft is saying "F*ck it, we'll do it live!", Google must be sighing a breath of relief - taking their time to iron out issues with Bard is looking like a safer bet.

Roblox Integrates AI  🎮

Roblox, Gen Z's favorite gaming platform, is integrating generative AI into its toolkit to make it easier for creators to build games.

Roblox CTO Daniel Sturman announced two new tools:

  1. A feature that outputs 3D items from text prompts.
  2. A tool that completes code (like GitHub Copilot).

Roblox has produced more than a few teenage super-creators, paying out hundreds of millions a year to teen developers creating the top Roblox games.

These AI features will supercharge those creators and make it that much easier for all ~60 million users to build their first creations.

For example, creating a virtual car could be as simple as providing a brief description of the car's materials, which the interface can then apply in real-time.

Keep it tight: the company is already preparing content moderation guidelines to keep creation safe and civil for its adolescent-dominated user base.

Smarter Than a Robot? 🤖

A GPU is the key computer part for both gaming as well as training AI models. Every gaming laptop has one.

Microsoft has been hoarding GPUs for its special supercomputer used to train OpenAI's models. How many GPUs does it have?

A/ 5,000 (~$45 million worth)

B/ 10,000 (~$90 million worth)

C/ 25,000 (~$225 million worth)

D/ 50,000 (~$450 million worth)

Leo Sends His Regards

Trivia Answer: It's unclear. Microsoft's 2020 announcement would say the answer is B (10,000 GPUs, worth $90 million). But Morgan Stanley thinks its been beefed up to C (25,000 GPUs, worth $225 million).
