Welcome, humans.
Shoutout to any āGame of Thronesā extended universe fans out there who watched the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale last night. No spoilersā¦ but we DID come across these stills from HBOās awesome new Game of Thrones animated seriesā¦ Ā
OK, you got usāthose were AI-generated. But hey, wouldnāt it be sick if they WERE real?
Letās all @ HBO on X and let āem know weād love to see this version of the show. They did announce a Jon Snow spinoff series back in the dayā¦why not animate it?
Weāve already got the tagline: Instead of āWinter is comingā? āComing this Winterā¦ā
Hereās what you need to know about AI today:
- Midjourney and FLUX upgrade their AI image tech.
- OpenAI has been holding onto a 99.9% accurate AI detector.
- Nvidia Blackwell design flaw may delay big tech AI rollouts.
- Study: AI safety tests are flawed & need major improvements.
New AI image models are here and theyāre getting out of control (hereās how to use them).
This past week, two huge things happened in the world of AI image generators.
First up: Midjourney, the #1 image model out there, released v6.1, a new model with a ton of new features that make the best model even better.
Hereās what Midjourney v6.1 can do:
- Create more realistic images, especially for body parts (hands), plants, and animals.
- Generate images faster (about 25% quicker).
- Improve text accuracy when including words in images.
Hereās what else happened: A new, open-source competitor to MJ arrived from Black Forest Labs called FLUX.1.
The team behind Black Forest is incredible, and the images FLUX can generate look on par to Midjourney
Why does this matter? Midjourney is closed-source, and to use it, you need to use Discord (hereās how). Thereās also a web version (in alpha mode), but it's only for people whoāve already generated 1,000+ images. Plus, you have to pay.
As an open-source model, anyone can download and use FLUX for non-commercial purposesābut you probably have to be technical to figure it out. Luckily, you can try a hosted version here.
Right now, one cool thing you can do is take images from Midjourney and turn them into videos with an AI video generator. Image-to-video is the best way to get āreliableā AI videoāas reliable as it can be in this stage, anyway.
Hereās how:
- First, go to Midjourney (or Flux) and enter your prompt. Example: āA serene Japanese garden at twilight, with a red wooden bridge over a koi pond, surrounded by cherry blossom trees.ā
- Pick the image you like from Midjourney or Flux, save it, and go to a text to video generator like Kling, Dream Machine, or Runway Gen 3.
- Select AI video, drag and drop the image in, and write a prompt to go along with it (the simpler the better).
VoilĆ , youāve now either created A) a horrible monstrosity, please try again, orā¦ B) one of the best AI videos possible today!
Here are more specific tutorials for Kling, Runway Gen 3, or Dream Machine.
And here are our Midjourney 6.1 prompting tips:
- To use the new v6.1 on Midjourney, make sure to add --v6.1 to the end of your prompt.
- Set the image's shape using "--ar". Example: "--ar 16:9" for widescreen
- Get higher image quality settings using "--q 2" (but slower generation).
More example prompts to try here.

(NEW): What gives it away that this is AI?
Weāre introducing a new section! That is, if you like it.
Hereās the idea behind it: AI-generated videos are having a moment. Some seem jarringly real. Others are p(AI)nfully fake.
Every Monday/Wednesday, weāll post a new AI video, and your job is to tell us what about the video gives it away as being AI.
