PLUS: an AI tool for Reddit

Welcome, humans.

Senator Bernie Sanders cited AI and “worker productivity” as part of the reason a 32-hour federal work week should become the norm. Big Tech's reaction: “Wait, people have been working more than 32 hours/week this whole time?!”

Here’s what you need to know about AI today:

  • We break down two big announcements from Nvidia.
  • Sam Altman’s notable quotes from his interview with Lex Fridman.
  • Stability AI drops a new text-to-3D model.
  • We share an AI tool that’s like the Perplexity of Reddit.

Nvidia’s big announcements and what they mean.

There is only one person louder than a lifelong Swiftie on her 4th Eras Tour concert: a tech fanboy seeing Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang walk out on stage at his keynote.

omg MOM you don’t understand! his company is worth $2 TRILLION!

Nvidia’s GTC keynote lasted a whopping 2 hours and was chock-full of technical mumbo jumbo that IT people love.

Our TL;DR for the rest of us: 1) AI is gonna get super powerful and 2) the robots are coming.

First: Nvidia announced a new chip that’s 30x more powerful than its most recent one (the one that’s been making it billions of dollars).

What it means: AI models like ChatGPT-4, Gemini and Claude are just the beginning. Bigger chips will make it easier/possible to make even bigger models. Hold onto your hats: whatever we’ve seen in the last 1.5 years really is just the beginning.

Second: Nvidia also announced Project GR00T, an effort to build the AI brains behind humanoid robots. Y’know, like the ones from Figure and Tesla.

What it means: The humanoid robots are coming. Maybe it’s a good time to rewatch Will Smith’s performance in I, Robot (2004)?

The best quotes from Sam Altman’s 2-hour interview.

The boys are back at it again. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman talks AI, GPT-5, Sora, the Elon lawsuit and more on his interview with Lex Fridman.

On rumors of artificial general intelligence: “Ilya has not seen AGI. None of us have seen AGI. We’ve not built AGI.”

On the lawsuit from Elon Musk: “I think this whole thing is unbecoming of a builder…it makes me extra sad he’s doing [this] to us.”

On copyright and AI: “Do people who create valuable data deserve to have some way that they get compensated for use of it? I think the answer is yes. I don’t know yet what the answer is.”

On job loss as a result of AI: “The way I think about it is not what percent of jobs AI will do, but what percent of tasks will AI do on over one time horizon…maybe people are way more efficient at the job they do”

On GPT-5: “I expect that the delta between [GPT-5] and [GPT-4] will be the same as between [GPT-4] and [GPT-3]…We will release an amazing new model this year. I don’t know what we’ll call it.”

Here’s the full transcript.

Around the Horn.

  • Stability AI announced a new 3D generation model called Stable Video 3D.
  • YouTube will require creators to disclose when they use AI in a video.
  • Your next house purchase might be with an AI, as a result of the new real estate broker commission structure.

Treat To Try.

We all know Reddit has the real stuff these days.

Which is why searching Google in 2024 is like: “best cat litter box reviews 2024 reddit”

We got clued into Gigabrain, a tool that searches across Reddit comments to help you find your cat litter box quicker than ever.

It’s like Perplexity (our fave) but for Reddit instead of Google!

Tuesday Ticker.

Here are the results from last week’s poll:

  • T.P. chose Easy: “If you are used to writing and conversing with specificity and orderliness, prompting is a natural extension.”
  • J.B. chose Medium: “I experimented a lot. Creating prompts not only improved Chat's results for me, ironically, it taught me how to communicate better with people.”
  • B.M. chose Medium: “Trial and error (mostly error). The Neuron Daily helped IMMENSELY!”

As if ChatGPT weren’t enough, we’re now talking robots?! How we feelin’ about it?

How excited are you for humanoid robots?
