Welcome, humans.

We’re knee-deep in March Madness. I asked AI how my bracket would do and it said, “Outlook not so good” 🙄

Sigh, maybe next year!

Here’s what you need to know about AI today:

  • OpenAI dials up its efforts to win over creatives of all stripes.
  • A marketer’s test shows human-written content > AI content.
  • A better way to use AI in your content.
  • An AI tool that breaks down any topic using visuals and graphics.

OpenAI puts on a charm offensive with Hollywood

Flashback to summer 2023. Hollywood is on strike over, among other things, labor contracts and, yes, AI. We’re stuck watching the same reruns of The Office. (Ok, fine. It was just the “Kevin’s chili” scene on repeat.)

After watching AI image generators like Midjourney trigger an absolute firestorm with creatives, OpenAI wants to butter up Hollywood before they release Sora, their new AI video generator.

To do this, they’re schmoozing their way around LA and yesterday, they published a blog post highlighting ways creatives are using Sora.

As if to say: “See, we’re helping you, not replacing you!”

It’s a tall task. The film, animation and gaming communities are extra, extra anti-AI. We have firsthand experience after they flooded Pete’s tweets once (evidence deleted, hehe).

The reality is that these tools will make an impact. Tyler Perry already cancelled an $800M studio investment after seeing Sora. We think more will follow.

Stepping back: With the most resources and most advanced tech, OpenAI’s efforts to shape public reactions to AI are the benchmark for AI more broadly. We’ll see how much resistance they encounter.

The right way to use AI to win web traffic.

“Make money fast” bros really thought they found the next big hack by spamming Google with AI-generated content and websites.

Well, the tactic is as real as their mansions and Lambos (read: not at all).

Famed digital marketer Neil Patel found that human-written content attracts 5x the traffic that AI-written content does. Which shows that lazy use of ChatGPT and Claude to write your content leads to unengaging, bland output.

Instead, we think content is way better when a human gives it direction and voice and uses AI to brainstorm topics, structure ideas and edit small pieces.

(The Neuron is 100% handcrafted and human-written! See how we use AI here.)

Here’s a tactic Neil does like: once you’ve written your wonderful human-led content, translate it to a bunch of different languages to go international.

“International on Day 1”: Translate text content using ChatGPT/Claude + video content using HeyGen = reach billions more people in their native language!

Around the Horn.

  • An AI-powered journalist using Claude 3 that you can run at home. Challenge accepted.
  • Microsoft’s AI plans are so energy-intensive that they could end up taking down power grids.
  • Former crypto exchange FTX sells its stake in Anthropic for $884M.
  • Mark Zuckerberg is ramping up Meta’s AI recruiting efforts.

Treat To Try.

Explorer by Globe (an AI experiments studio) scans the Internet to find diagrams and visuals to help you understand any topic.

Type in a topic like “pythagorean theorem” and it’ll help you break down the idea, accompanied by images that’ll reinforce the message.

Tuesday Ticker.

Here are the results from last week’s poll:

  • C. chose Hesitant: “It's less about being careful and more I don't understand the need to make them look human. Like, wouldn't something with 4 legs or treads be much easier to design than something with 2 legs?”
  • F. chose Very: “It's just a matter of time before caretaker robots for the elderly or sick are the norm and once people see the convenience they bring, they will be everywhere.”
  • R. chose Sorta: “There's a lot of room between "Only in factories" and "one in every home" and that's where I find myself. ”
