Welcome, humans.
Weāre pumped to finally announce our rebrand for The Neuron!
tl;dr: Expect more cats, personality, and IQ points! Shoutout to the awesome Jeremy Somers at notcontent.ai for taking our design to the next level.
Hereās what you need to know about AI today:
- The Neuron is using to help research, outline, and polish writing.
- CNN, Reuters, ABC, & others are blocking OpenAI from scraping their content.
- Meta might be working on a Llama 3, which would rival GPT-4.
- WizardCoder is a new model built on Code Llama that outperforms.
REVEALED: How We Use AI To Make Writing The Neuron Easier.
Many newsletters are lying to you: their content is 100% AI-generated. Weāre calling it: AI-GATE!
How did we figure this out?
Weāve tested AI writing newsletters. Give it an article ā summarize it ā format it.
The outcome? Mid, and eerily similar to some of the trendy (AI) newsletters you may knowā¦
Itās becoming increasingly difficult to gauge whatās AI and we believe media outlets should be completely transparent about their AI use.
That said, Ā¾ steps of The Neuron involve AI in some capacity:
1. Research: We read A LOT and AI is great at locating those devour-worthy treats*. Hereās how:
- Metaphor for discovery. Itās an AI search engine where you simply describe what youāre looking for, like ānotable AI research.ā
- Claude to distill research. We can upload ~100 pages of text and extract the important bits.
*Note: We always confirm the accuracy of what the AI tells us by double-checking primary sources.
2. Outlining: AI has all the worldās knowledge, so we use it to organize our thoughts:
- ChatGPT-4 for education. We use the GOAT to clarify any history or terminology weāre not well-versed in.
- ChatGPT-4 for ideation, to help us understand the potential impact of AI news or research on specialized industries or the broader economy.
Before the rest, we canāt help but fantasize about being cool enough to use AI like this:
FROM OUR PARTNERS
Invest In This Startup is Building Real-Life Robo-Teams
Remember when Iron Man, Cap, and Thor teamed up to defeat Thanos in Avengerās Endgame?
AvaWatz does this in real life ā¦ with robots!
Its advanced AI algorithms transform individual bots into seamless task forces that perform physical tasks quicker and safer.
Picture this: air robots detecting runway debris AND ground bots swooping in for the clean-up.
The US military already uses AvaWatzās tech and invested $2 million into the product themselves. Now itās your turn.
For a limited time, AvaWatz is opening its door to retail investors for an exclusive fundraising round. You can become a shareholder for as little as $250! Invest here.
The Writing Is Still 100% Us.
3. Writing: We, humans, write 100% of the words you read on this screen. AI still sounds robotic. And you know weāre quirkier than a Siamese cat that insists on using a human toilet!
4. Polishing: We're still human, after all, and AI lends a hand to make everything look 100% polished:
- ChatGPT-4 for editing. We feed ChatGPT our past editions and instruct it to finesse any rough sentences.
- Grammarly for grammar. Because if we don't, our folks are definitely putting us in time-out!
Why it matters: The Neuron is AI-first and we're dedicated to helping you do the same. We're 100% committed to using AI responsibly and transparently. If any part of our process changes, you'll be the first to know!
Around the Horn.
- Macworld introduced a Q&A chatbot to its site called āSmart Answersā thatās trained on all its articles.
- More media companies have blocked OpenAIās web crawler from taking their data.
- Meta might already be cooking up Llama 3 and 4, which would be as good as GPT-4 and still open-sourced.
- Armās IPO will tell us how much AI hype matters (The Verge).
- Industry analysts say that access to expensive GPUs will decide who wins in AI, and Googleās sitting very pretty there (SemiAnalysis)
Treats To Try.
WizardCoder is a coding AI built on top of Code Llama, which we covered on Friday).
Itās more capable than Code Llama. AKA ā¦ itās a camel?!
Roughly GPT-3.5 level. Hereās the code.
