People Are Afraid To Tell Their Bosses About AI 🤖
This is the AI edition of Prisoner’s Dilemma. ↓
Workers are increasingly leveraging AI to make their work lives easier, but they’re keeping their productivity secrets under wraps. Here’s why:
According to Wharton Prof Ethan Mollick, “Much of the value of AI use comes from people not knowing you are using it.”
In other words, if you tell your boss how you’re automating your job, they might conclude that they simply don’t need you anymore! We’re coining this the: “Do I Tell My Boss About AI” Dilemma?!
In order for organizations to begin reaping the same productivity benefits as employees, Prof Mollick recommends a three-part strategy:
- Acknowledge that employees across the org can contribute to the AI agenda.
- Reassure workers using AI that they won’t face repercussions.
- Reward those who bring forward AI solutions that benefit the business.
For now, employees are keeping their AI maneuvers secret, including finding workarounds for ChatGPT bans. It’s like guarding your treasured hiking trail to keep it unknown!

AI Could Actually Enhance Advertising Business Models 🛎
When Snap’s “My AI” chatbot released in February, people dubbed it as dystopian and creepy (still holds true).
Fast forward, and over than 150 million users have sent over 10 billion messages to their shiny new AI buddies.
And while this hasn’t nudged $SNAP stock, it is helping Snap gain a better understanding of its users, thereby enabling more tailored ad targeting.
In other words, if we chatter about our cats to My AI (which we don’t), Snap will target us with cat food ads (which it doesn’t). More personalized ads = more money!
Likewise, our convos might also translate to more cat-centric content. More engagement = even more money!
Why it matters: This new approach could be especially significant for companies navigating the Apple privacy era, where user tracking across different websites and apps is a no-go.
Also, we’re beginning to see that data isn’t just valuable for training AI models: data from interactions with AI models can also inform companies about what to sell to their audiences.
